Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic imaging tests and scans are important for accurately diagnosing and staging cancer, as well as tracking the progress of treatment. Typically a linear accelerator and three-dimensional treatment planning is used to maximize the effect on cancer cells while minimizing the effects on normal tissue. The process produces detailed images showing critical information about the body’s biological function distinct from other imaging techniques. It allows physicians to examine large areas of the body in a single scanning session and shows a body’s biochemical processes, such as tissue glucose metabolism. Together with anatomical images, X-ray, CT or MRI, and PET images represent the best non-invasive means of detecting and evaluating a variety of diseases, especially cancer.
